Skateboarding in particular has always been a huge influence on my passion for design. growing up in the skate scene, I was always immersed in the expressive visual culture that skateboarding harbors. This influence left a mark on me when I first began to explore my creativity. When I would doodle, it was always a set of 3D Lettering, or a goofy hand-drawn character. By the time I entered high school, I took my first graphic design class and realized people are making a career out of something I was already doing as a hobby, (even if what I was doing was the bare bones, I was stoked!). After some time passed, and I started pursuing a degree at University of Oregon in Art & Technology after changing my major twice before, I began to learn that design is more than a cool image, it was a way to communicate a message through a visual language that had been studied for decades. This brought me to come full circle to skateboarding. If I can create design that can find the medium between expression, function, and bringing together community in a similar way skateboarding does, Then I can say I’ve found a purpose for myself through design!
